Gift Ideas for Saint Patrick's Day
The Shamrock - Great Gift Ideas for Saint Patricks Day
Someone would be green with envy at the very thought of these green and gorgeous shamrock gift ideas for Saint Patrick s Day - straight from the emerald Isle. Who wouldn't be delighted with one of these emerald-green beauties on St Patrick's Day?
Why green? Why the Shamrock? Why is the Shamrock so important for the Saint Patrick's Day celebration?
Both the color green and the three-leafed plant known in Ireland as the Shamrock, have become symbols of Saint Patrick and of Ireland. St. Patrick used the shamrock as a metaphor for the Christian Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.
I have a very personal interest in Saint Patrick's Day and all things Irish as I've just discovered that my great grandmother and great uncles came from Ireland. A bit of family history to research here!
So celebrate Ireland, the Irish and St Patrick with me by the wearing of these beautiful shamrock-green gifts - the wearing of the green is a great tribute to all things Irish, so if you've got it - flaunt it. If you haven't got it yet - what are you waiting for?
I hope you'll like my shamrock gift ideas for the Saint Patrick s Day holiday celebration and get the green with me.

Do You Know What Shamrock Is?
The shamrock is a bit of a mystery
So what is the shamrock exactly? We know that the shamrock is a low-growing plant with leaves growing in groups of three, but after that things become a little hazy. The name 'shamrock' comes from Irish word seamrog, an Irish word for clover seamair but there has been a long history of confusion. The species of clover normally thought to be Shamrock are Trifolium dubium or Trifolium repens but many other plants with three-lobed leaves have been portrayed as shamrock.
Lets not split hairs though - the clover leaf or shamrock motif is just as pretty whatever the exact species it derives from! After all, we know a shamrock leaf when we see it!

I love Limoges porcelain, beautiful but strong and so fine that it's translucent. I also love these little tricket boxes.
My interest in Limoges porcelain began ten years ago when I moved to Limousin, near the great city of Limoges, where Limoges porcelain was, and is still, made. Catch up with this wonderful, collectible and historic porcelain here: White Plates of Limoges, Princess of Porcelain.
Saint Patrick and the Shamrock
Why green, the colour of shamrock became Saint Patrick's colour
Blue was the first color to be associated with Saint Patrick but slowly the colour green, the colour of the hills and valleys of ireland, took over and now, to celebrate St Patrick's Day green ribbons and the green shamrock plant are worn. This tradition goes back as far as the 17th century.
On the 17th of March, 1798 Irish soldiers came out dressed in full green uniforms to make a public statement - and it's a statement that lives on today. "The wearing of the green" means to pin a shamrock onto you clothing, or, simply to wear this outrageous, rebellious Irish colour.

Wearing Of The Green - by Wolfe Tones
The lyrics of this song tell us that the shamrock was outlaxed "on Irish ground" along with the name of
St. Patrick and "His colors" whe a law was passed against "The wearing of the green".

This is a single leaf shamrock design, so beautifully simple and elegant. The leaf was picked from my own flower garden. I love plants and flowers and I was so pleased to find that a single shamrock leaf was enough to bring together a whole host of very pleasing ideas - green, nature, Saint Patrick, the trinity, love and sheer good design. No wonder it's proved a popular gift for Saint Patrick's Day!

The language of love on Saint Patrick's Day
In these designs I used the same natural shamrock leaf but replaced one of the three lobes with a red heart.
