Daisy, Daisy
Daisy was a very popular name in 1880, took a dive in 1970s but is back in fashion again, at least in Britain. It used be a diminutive form of Margarite, or Margaret, which in turn is French for, yes, you guessed it, the daisy!
This was a song my Father used to sing for us when we were children and I still have very fond memories of it. I was delighted to find this little snippet of the song.
These are the words as he used to sing them or as I remember them to be:
A Bicycle Built for Two
Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do,
I'm half crazy all for the love of you,
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage,
But you'll look sweet,
Upon the seat of a bicyle made for two.
Julie Do You Love Me - Bobby Sherman
Peggy Sue - Buddy Holly
Roxanne - The Police
I've had so much fun
Shame Squidoo spoilt it!
Taking this trip down memory lane has been just so much fun. It all started as a bit of fun trying to think of all the songs featuring girl's names. Then I realised what a wonderful gift it would make to send or give one of these songs to the girl or woman in your life. This galvanised me into action and I now realise that there are just so many songs out there dedicated to that special someone.
Not all of the songs are complimentary, but then what about the occasions when you might want to have a bit of fun? Give a funny song to your friends in the office or charm the boss with her very own song.
Why girls only?
With the exception of a couple of songs, namely Danny Boy, I couldn't think of many songs with men's names. Donald Where's Your Trousers? is another one. Perhaps I'll give it more thought. Watch this spot!
Please do help me by sending me your ideas. I'd love to hear from you.
